I stumbled onto the web page. It is very good. There is a mistake in regards to Ida Newkirk. It lists her as a wife of Thomas Riley Newkirk. That is incorrect. She is a sister to Thomas Riley Newkirk. She married Felix Floyd from Johnson Mesa. They had one daughter Betty Floyd, who just recently died (Sept. or Oct. 2007)and was buried in Raton, NM.

Thanks to all those responsible for the website.

Jack

Hi Mike
I'm here reading this message. Just called Alfred and Jack is his brother. Alfred wasn't sure but said that Jack has done this stuff and would know; so we had better change it!! Hope you can get rid of this message. Thanks for working on this web site.....Marijo

What a great museum. Eric Carmichael and I visited last weekend, after a trip to Capulin park. Thanks for opening up for us on a Sat. afternoon.

Your building and museum are truly America, and should not only be preserved but celebrated. Our thought is that permanent funding should be established, maybe a Foundation with tax exempt status and benefits. Also, due to the proximity to Capulin and the present good relationship (hope the run goes well), maybe your group could dovetail with visits to both the volcano and museum paid for when people visit the volcano. What we see as a win-win deal is payment of $10/car instead of $5, with a free pass to the museum included. Nobody who is interested in the volcano would not be interested in your museum, so visitors should multiply.

Keep up the good work. We will pass the word up here and elsewhere.

I want to say that I had the extreme pleasure to meet Mrs.Betty Short on Friday, the 29th of May 2009, at the Folsom Museum. She was a fountain of information about Folsom, and is truly a local treasure. I would like to wish her the best of luck for the future, and to say that I hope to be back in Folsom and to visit with her again soon.

I am very upset to hear that a member of the museum commitee is spreading RUMORS that my father was smoking pot at the Fall Harvest Festival that took place at the Rainbow Ranch last fall. This is NOT a Fact and is absolutely uncalled for. This person should make sure that what they ASSUME is in deed a fact BEFORE they open their mouth in RUMOR around the community.....My Father was ACTUALLY smoking "Roll Your Own" tobacco at the time "TOP" brand to be specific. If they would have confronted him instead of being a COWARD they would have know this. Instead they decided to spread gossip around the community that was untrue.
If my father did indeed smoke pot (which I have never known him to do)I can assure that he would do it privately, not do it in a public place like an irresponsible teenager, to boot; as we were attempting to advertise a begining business, and continue his current business.
Just remember next time you "THINK" you see something you may want to "CONFIRM" what you THINK you saw! as when you "ASS-U-ME" it makes an ASS out of U & ME!!

I in turn will not support any function that the Folsom Museum sponsors and will make point to tell people in other communities to boycot as well. Due to the unfactual rumor spreading that may incurr at any of their functions!

Thank You
Jalane

Hey Jalane,

After you added your fun post, Google put ads for smoking at the top of the page! How's that for context based advertising? Maybe somebody will click on the ads and kick the habit.

Good luck with your boycott - I'm sure it will give you something to do rather than whatever it is that you normally do! Not that there's anything with that, of course.

From the copper "town bathtub" to the info on "Folsom Man" the museum is a delightful place to visit. My spouse and I stopped by September 26 and enjoyed the vast collection of bottles, the many old implements, the big pot belly stove, and its cousins and chatting with the tiny museum cureator (for that day). Anyone traveling in NE NM should plan a stop to become acquainted with Folsom, NM.

My husband and I were on our way to Canon City, CO from Little Rock, AR when I saw the sign for Folsom Museum. I said, "Well what do you know, a Folsom Museum way out here in New Mexico!" Then I wondered why it was named Folsom, as this is my maiden name. How, do I go about finding out that information? Just curious. Dottie M Merritt

I am compiling a history of my husbands family who moved to the Des Moines area in 1911. I have seen a copy of the ledger where the family of George Louis Findley purchased items in the general store. If possible, I would like to have a copy of these pages. Please let me know the cost for these. We passed through Folsom one year, but now in looking at the days for it to be open, we were there at the wrong time. Would love to see it one of these days.

I had the greatest time on the Dry Cimarron History tour this weekend. The speakers were wonderful, humble, and extremely knowledgeable. Every stop held pleasant suprises and cool discoveries. Spending time with the museum crew of Abby and Eleanor was like being with old friends. I can't think of any way in which the day could have been more enjoyable. Thanks for a great time.

sincerely

I've been to Capulin many many times since I was little (usually on the way to Colorado for family vacations). I've never been to Folsom yet, but I keep hoping to get there soon. Your museum looks very interesting, and I enjoy reading about the town history.

Greetings it's been a few years since I made it to the museum, was hoping someone can help me find some old pictures of the Rael family, my father was Victor Rael I remember seeing some pictures that I would love to have copies of if at all possible I would gladly pay someone to help me out if at all possible. our huge family just recently started a facebook page and I going to try and get alot of them to join in membership so that they can help with the renovation and help preserve where our heritage came from, My folks ,grandparents, and a sister are buried in Des Moines catholic cemetary, and other grandparents buried in folsom cemetary along with other relatives.
I really hope to hear from someone in regards to pictures or anything regarding my father he worked in the area for a very long time. - Thank you and have a great day!!!

I understand there will be some sort of celebration in Folsom at the end of August 2010. We were born and raised in Folsom and we are interested in being there. My father was Albert Rael. My mother is Gertrude Rael and my parents have a consignment of antiques at your museum. Would you please send me information on the event. Thank you, joann

PS, Folsom is the most beautiful place in NM.
